SPURonWA grant

The SPURonWA grant program is a competitive grant with the aim of supporting individuals and businesses to develop innovative products and services. To qualify, you need to be based in Western Australia (WA) and your idea must have a strong location information component.

SPUR allocated $100,000 for the 2017/18 financial year to the grant program with individual grants offered up to $25,000.

Congratulations to round 2 recipients of the SPURonWA grant program announced November 2017.

Contact us to discuss if you and your proposal meets the eligibility criteria.

What can be funded?

SPUR grant funding is available to progress your idea, product or service to market.

Grant funds are not intended to finance projects in full.  Applications must include a budget detailing the requested grant funds and other funding sources.

Applicants should show a clear link between the proposed activities and intended outcomes.  The proposal can be commercial or community focused.

Examples of what the grant funds can be used towards include (but aren’t limited to):

  • intellectual property protection,
  • product development (prototype development, product testing, engineering design work, website or app development),
  • commercialisation services (business, financial, marketing or legal advice).

The grant will not fund activities retrospectively, or support business as usual costs (eg. established products and services or salaries).

Application and assessment process

The SPURonWA grant application process is a one-stage competitive process involving the submission of a written application and budget.

Evaluation of the applications will commence Monday 9 October in two phases.

Phase 1: initial assessment to determine if the application is complete and the eligibility criteria has been met.

Phase 2: assessment of the project proposal against three equally weighted criteria:

  • Innovative location component addressing market / community problem or opportunity

Application questions taken into consideration: product/service description, IP, competitors, unique value proposition
  • Execution capacity

Application questions taken into consideration: project team, project plan, financial sustainability
  • Contribution to grant objectives and value for money

Application questions taken into consideration: outcomes, activities, budget.

The selection panel may also seek further clarification from applicants on aspects of their submission if required. This is to ensure that any confusion can be resolved quickly.

Applicants will be notified if their application has been successful by 24 November 2017.

It is expected that once agreements have been finalised with successful applicants, funds should be released by the end of January 2018.
